Government's Health Watchdog Warning Over Controlled Drugs

A report by the Healthcare Commission, in response to the Shipman inquiry, has stated that in many care homes there are no records of the administration of controlled drugs precribed to residents by the community nurses. This report into the safe management of controlled drugs also found that nurses are not always willing to maintain a record of medicine administration. Therefore, the commission has recommended that healthcare professionals keep written records of medicines prescribed to residents of care homes, on behalf of the care home itself, not just for NHS records.
