Northern Ireland is in need of the dedicated Agency for Public Health and Social Well-being if we are to begin to seriously address health inequalities.
That is the view of Health Minister, Michael McGimpsey as the ‘Health and Social Care Inequalities Monitoring System’ report was published.

NHS Wales Chief Executive to retire in March 2009

NHS Wales Chief Executive Ann Lloyd has confirmed that she will retire at the end of March 2009 after serving the Welsh Assembly Government in this key role for eight years.
She will step aside from her current job as Head of the NHS in Wales in December to lead a major project on tackling waiting times for hospital appointments and treatments.

NHS Employers Against Re-Opening Pay Negotiations

The rise in the level of inflation has caused unions to request that negotiations over pay be re-opened. In response to this, employers have urged the NHS pay review body to stick with the current three-year pay settlement.
The three-year pay deal covering 2008-09 to 2010-11 is worth 2.7 per cent a year - just under half the current rate of inflation. NHS Employers - which represents trusts on workforce issues - said the settlement should stand.
